At the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the UAE presented a joint statement on behalf of more than 91 countries, highlighting the potential of emerging technologies to provide sustainable solutions for improving disability inclusivity.
The statement emphasized that technology can play a key role in increasing the participation and inclusion of people with disabilities in all areas of life, contributing to the creation of a more inclusive and sustainable future.
It also outlined how assistive technologies and AI-powered tools can significantly improve the learning, work, and everyday experiences of individuals with disabilities. These innovations help foster independence, build self-esteem, and empower people with disabilities to lead full, meaningful lives within a society that upholds their rights.
While recognizing the vast potential of new technologies, the statement also stressed the importance of addressing the challenges these technologies may present. It called for the establishment of international standards to ensure safety, efficiency, and equitable access, safeguarding the rights and protection of people with disabilities.
The UAE reiterated its call for global efforts to be intensified to further integrate people with disabilities, reaffirming a collective commitment to their inclusion.
